About Multimodal Logistic Parks

The establishment of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) in a hub-and-spoke framework is a major policy initiative of the Union Government of India. It is intended to improve the country’s freight logistics industry by cutting costs associated with warehousing, reducing traffic, and significantly reducing freight costs and time.

An MMLP is a freight-handling facility that has access to numerous modes of transportation, mechanised warehousing, specialised additional storage like cold storage, equipment for mechanised product processing and inter-modal transfer container terminals, as well as large and break-bulk freight terminals. Along with providing value-added services like testing facilities, quarantine areas, and customs clearance with bonded storage yards, logistics parks will do much more. It will also cover the management of returns and late-stage production tasks including kitting and final assembly, grading, sorting, labelling, and packaging, as well as reworking.

In October 2017, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave MoRT&H permission to build 35 Multi Model Logistics Parks (MMLP) across the nation. These 35 MMLPs, which are being implemented by MoRTH, will be built under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model that follows the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) principle.
